Letterpress on the Vandercook: Suitable for beginning to intermediate students, this covers design for letterpress using InDesign and Photoshop, creating film files, making photopolymer plates, using the guillotine to cut paper, printing on the Vandercook and bindings and assemblies. Focus is on photopolymer, rather than hand set, letterpress. Students may come to class with their own project in mind, be it invitations, cards, broadsides, or a simple book. Or, students may come just to learn the craft, and the instuctors will guide them through project choices and development. Taught by Jenny Seiler and Bettina Pauly. Sundays, 11:30-2:30, May 17th - August 30th. Class limit: 6. Tuition: $37/Sunday. *

Heidelberg Windmill Extended: Students spend a full semester learning how to print using the Windmill, as well as standard care and maintenence, and mechanics of the press. Design and basics of printing will not be taught at this course. Students should be prepared to create their own designs and film files, and should have a clear understanding of the roles that packing, roller height, and ink level play in printing. Taught by Bill Denham. Sundays, 2:30-5:30, May 17th - August 30th. Class limit: 6. Tuition: $37/Sunday. *

Open Studio Workshop: Qualified printers and artists come to the studio to share the presses and tools, including the Vandercook 4, Heidelberg Windmill, tabletop Griffin, oversized Griffin, guillotine, platemaker, vertical etching tank, UV exposure lamp, design software and computers, Led by Kim Vanderheiden. Saturdays, 1-4, May 16th - August 31st. Class limit: 6. Tuition: $30/Sunday. *

* Students are responsible for the cost of their own plates, film, and paper. These will vary depending on the scope of the project. The instructor can provide further details if needed.

Tuition is collected in advance for the classes the student intends to attend during the semester. Pre-planned absences may be excluded from tuition fee. Interested parties may attend one class free of charge before deciding whether to join.

Language as Connection— Looking carefully at a variety of poems and poetic voices, including our own, we will examine those various things that individually prevent us or help us to render our own experiences, internal or external, accurately into words—the premise, here, being: the more accurately we can represent our own experience, the more likely it is that our expression will resonate with another and create the connection we seek. Goal: To improve our own self critical abilities, to have three poems of our own that we would judge ready for publication. Taught by Bill Denham. September 3rd-December 3rd, Thursdays 7:00 – 10:00 pm. Class limit: 6. Tuition: $300.**

Independent Project—For writers of poetry or prose (fiction or non-fiction) who are well into a project and need, at this point, an astute and articulate collaborator, editor, or critic—another set of dedicated eyes and ears to reflect what they see and hear and thereby help you to move closer and closer to exactly what you want to say. Meet one on one for one hour face to face per week. Scope, goals, and meeting time to be jointly worked out prior to first paid session, including nature of weekly written evaluations. Taught by Bill Denham. September 3rd-December 3rd. Tuition: $600.**

** Optional: letterpress print 25 copies of a broadside of one of our own poems—add $200. Please see http://www.urbanharvestdesign.com/ for more information about Bill Denham and his writings.
